This Winnetka project presented a rare and highly technical challenge. The homeowners were expanding their home above the garage to create additional living space, requiring the new roof to integrate seamlessly with the existing structure. The difficulty arose when it was discovered that the original roofing material—DaVinci Aspire synthetic slate—had been discontinued.
Although the Aspire line had since been acquired by DaVinci Roofing Products, matching the existing slate was far from straightforward. Differences in suppliers, material composition, and manufacturing processes meant that a standard replacement would result in noticeable variation. Anything less than an exact match would disrupt the home’s architectural continuity.
